Carlos Alberto Parreira appointed South Africa coach

Carlos Alberto Parreira has been reappointed the national team coach of South Africa just 18 months after he previously left the 2010 hosts.

The Brazilian manager, who departed the Bafana Bafana due to personal reasons before, has signed an initial eight month contract to the end of the 2010 World Cup with his first task being to halt their alarming drop in form.

Parreira, who led Brazil to success in the 1994 tournament hosted in the USA, replaces fellow countryman Joel Santana who previously led South Africa to the semi finals of the 2009 Confederations Cup.

He said that his objective would be to reach at least the second round. “From the second round on it’s a lottery. It will depend on the group which comes out of the draw. The hosts have greater expectations, their fans are emotional and rather irrational.”
